Gifts/Rites

PLEASE FILL OUT THE OPT-IN PERMISSION POST FOUND HERE.

Gifts: Over her decades of being Garou, Jordana has been taught many gifts by various spirits.
  • Master of Fire: temporarily allow fire damage to be healed like normal damage

  • *Scent of the True Form: Upon catching the scent of a person, the Garou can determine the person's true nature/type of being. This is a learning process, the scent itself doesn't automatically convey the type of being unless it's one the Garou has been exposed to before. The following are scent types Jordana knows: Garou/werewolves, normal human, kinfolk (canon werewolf relatives), spirit, humans possessed by spirits, vampires, fairies, fera (non-werewolf shapeshifters), demons (has encountered the scent, doesn't know what it is). New creature type scents can be learned over time.

  • Sense Wyrm: the ability to detect spiritual corruption in an area

  • *Spirit Speech: the ability to communicate clearly with spirits

  • Staredown: By staring into the eyes of a human or animal, the Garou can make them flee in terror. This can be used on supernatural creatures, though it will make them freeze instead of fleeing.

  • Calm the Savage Beast: Intimate with the perils of rage and frenzy, the Garou can lend their will to a frenzying Garou to grant them escape from the state. With additional effort, it is possible for the Garou to bring about the same effect in a non-Garou experiencing frenzy/uncontrollable rage.

  • Spirit Ward: The Garou draws an invisible pictogram in the air that unnerves and scares any nearby spirits, protecting the Garou. This ward travels with the werewolf as long as it lasts.

  • Resist Pain: Through sheer will, the Garou is unaffected by pain and stress of all wounds.

  • Truth of Gaia: The Philodox has the ability to detect whether a person speaks truth or flasehood. It only reveals if the person is speaking the truth or lying.

  • Flames of Hestia: The Fury produces white flames about her hands. This fire purifies anything it touches, cleansing tainted food and water, reduces damage inflicted by radiation, poison, or disease. The fire will inflict damage upon any corrupt spirit or person possessed by a corrupt spirit.

  • Pulse of the Prey: If the Garou knows anything about the prey, they can track it down as fast as they can move. This unerring sense of direction operated anywhere and is automatic unless the prey is actively hiding. Then it becomes difficult.

  • Curse of Aeolus: The Fury calls up a thick, eerie fog that obscures vision and unnerves her opponents. The Fury can see through this fog.

  • Body Wrack: The Fury points at a target and causes them immense, crippling pain.

  • Fangs of Judgement: The Philodox levies judgement and punishment upon those that have fallen from their proper station. The Garou's fangs and claws burn with the righteous power of law, doing extra damage to any who have fallen from their original purpose to corruption/evil. This has no effect on any being that came into existence as creatures of corruption/evil.

  • Call to Duty: The Philodox can call into service, summoning and commanding, any spirit of whom she knows the name. With extra effort, she can summon all Gaian spirits within one mile to protect or assist her, even if she doesn't know their names. The latter half of this gift is not available in Rubilykskoye.

  • *Scent of the Oathbreaker: Oaths sanctioned before a Philodox are serious matters. This gift grants the ability to know when an oath has been broken and track down the oathbreaker to correct them personally. Oaths may be either formal or informal and must be intentionally sanctified by the Philodox. At any point in the future, if one of the parties breaks the oath, the philodox immediately becomes aware of it, and it's easy to find the oathbreaker. This effect lasts until the next time the oathbreaker is in the Philodox's presence.

  • Bonds that Tie Us: This gift reveals to the philodox any emotions and opinions that exist between two people. It is indiscriminate in that it reveals any emotion that may exist, and many detest the use of the gift for investigative purposes. Though the philodox knows the emotions aren't real, they feel real, and caution must be taken in using the gift.

  • Roll Over: The Philodox can call on her power to radiate a commanding presence that compels others to submit to her. Should she succeed in a test of wills, she dominates her foe, causing humans to fall to their knees and wolves to roll on their backs. The target cannot take any action other than submission unless they are in direct danger.

  • Breath of the Wyld: The Fury may instill a feeling of vitality and life in a living being. This gift requires skin contact and being outdoors in a natural setting, sharpening the mind and calming turmoil in the target.

  • Heightened Senses: This gift allows the Garou to expand their senses to a supernatural level, able to detect things normally considered impossible, bordering on precognition. This does come with the drawback that intense sounds, scents, physical sensations can cause sensory overload or temporarily render the Garou helpless while the gift is active.

  • * denotes the only gifts that are always active. All others require conscious thought to make use of.

Rites: Rituals that tap into the spiritual side of Garou, allowing for a variety of effects. Jordana is especially good at punishment rites.
  • Rite of Cleansing: removes residue of corruption from objects/people purifying them. Severe corruption/taint cannot be fully removed by this rite, but may be reduced.

  • **Gathering for the Departed: Helps usher the spirit of the recently deceased on to the afterlife.

  • **Rite of Talisman Dedication: This rite allows specific objects and items to adjust to the shapeshifting nature of Garou. Clothing dedicated in this way do not shred upon changing forms, carried items temporarily absorb into the body, etc. This also allows those objects to be brought into the Umbra, but that effect is not available in the setting.

  • Rite of the Fetish: this rite allows the Garou to take a spirit (willing or not) and tie it to an item to create a magic item (fetish) with specific properties. The spirit is contained within the item, fueling the effect, but the spirit is in slumber and unaware as long as the fetish is intact.

  • Rite of Binding: This rite binds a spirit to the Garou or an object for a short amount of time, making it the ritemaster's servant. The more powerful the spirit, the more difficult the rite, taking from anywhere from an hour to years depending on the spirit. One-time use magic items called talens are crafted this way.

  • Rite of Contrition: A formal apology with mystical backing used to prevent the emnity of offended spirits or prevent war/conflict between groups of people.

  • Voice of the Jackal: punishment rite performed when an individual has shamed not only themselves but the entire community. This rite changes the person's voice to speak in an annoying shrill and piercing nasal whine until the ritemaster repeals the punishment.

  • Rite of the Jackdaw: Used to punish those who have broken a promise of secrecy, this rite causes the person to uncontrollably tell everyone they meet about the most private and trivial matters of their life. This rite will not compel them to speak of other secrets they are sworn to keep. This effect lasts for one full day.

  • Rite of Accomplishment: This rite recognizes a Garou's deeds, granting them renown.

  • **Prayer for the Prey: Minor rite that honors the sacrifice given by prey to nourish others. Not available in Rubilyksokye as it makes use of the Umbra.

  • Soothe the Scars: Rite only bestowed upon women to help them process trauma suffered at the hand of a spouse, parent, or other family member aka mystical therapy

  • **Rite of the Questing Stone: this rite allows the ritemaster to focus on an object or person, then follow the swinging motions of a pendent to locate the target. It only conveys direction not distance.

  • **Rite of the Cardboard Palace: this rite allows the Garou to transform any flimsy structure into a place to sleep. The walls become water-resistant and insulating, allowing the inside to stay dry and warm.

  • Avenge the Innocent: Punishment rite that inflicts the criminal of a heinous crime with a curse that rapidly ages them until they either die over a period of weeks or the ritemaster removes the curse. The criminal need not be present for the rite to be completed, but a core element of the crime is necessary (murder weapon, bloody sheet, etc). This rite will not work on an innocent person.

  • Rite of Adoption: this rite allows a female Garou from another tribe to join the Black Fury tribe. This rite is not available in Rubilykskoye.

  • Autumn, Rejuvenate the Soil: seasonal rite that helps restore life to the soil, so that it is not leeched by overtaxing. The land affected regains some of its bounty over the winter, improving the crop production for the next year.

  • ** low level rites that only take a few minutes to perform. all others take much longer and/or are elaborate
